Some topics that will be discussed at the symposium sessions:

Synopsis Organiser

S08. Bringing impactful health and safety programmes to workers at their door-steps

There is a close inter-relationship between workplace safety and health promotion. The Workplace Safety and Health Institute (WSHI) estimates that 85% of work-related mortality in Singapore is contributed by ill-health as opposed to injuries. The symposium highlights importance of jointly addressing safety and health of workers to improve wellbeing of the working population.

S11. Prevention pays! The role of accident insurance and the return to work reintegration

The G7 have decided that in times of globalisation, the element of sustainability needs to be added to global supply chains. Employment injury protection schemes are regarded as essential for sustainable economic growth. Therefore, an international "Vision Zero Fund" has been set up to support developing countries. The panel will discuss the effectives and usefulness of the Fund.

ISSA Technical Commission on Insurance against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases

S13. OSH in the informal economy

The "informal economy" refers to workers and economic units that are insufficiently or not covered under the governments' legal and regulatory frameworks. High exposure to unsafe and unhealthy working conditions places an estimated 1.8 billion such workers in a very vulnerable situation. The panel will share OSH intervention strategies in the informal economy.

S21. The highway to health and safety: A zero harm culture, good and best practices

Moving forward on the path to zero harm is the best approach to set up a successful occupational safety and health management, hence successful businesses. Preventing all injuries and ill-health arising from work should be key to any business policy. The panel will explore ways for implementing a zero harm culture as an aspirational goal.
